Ingredients:

  • 2 cups water
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3 cups loosely packed fresh mint leaves
  • 2 cups bourbon
  • powdered sugar, optional
  • fresh mint leaves for garnish

Directions:

  • Bring the water, sugar, and mint leaves to a boil in a large saucepan, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat.
  • Cover the sugar mixture, and steep for 30 minutes.  This process allows the flavor to be extracted from the mint leaves.
  • Pour mixture through a wire-mesh strainer into a pitcher, discarding mint leaves.
  • Let cool then stir in bourbon.
  • Serve in 4 glasses over crushed ice.
  • Garnish with a fresh mint spring and sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired.
