Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cups sugar
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • 4 t. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cups raisins
  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. milk

Egg wash:

  • 1 egg
  • 1 T milk

Directions:

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.  
  2. Whisk together flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder in a bowl.  
  3. Gradually mix in raisins so they are evenly distributed.  
  4. Add butter in small cubes and mix in with a pastry blender until evenly blended. 
  5. Whisk together eggs and milk in a separate bowl.  Gradually stir into flour mixture to form a dough.   
  6. Drop 1/2 c. scoops of dough onto ungreased cookie sheets.  
  7. Mix egg and milk for egg wash.  Brush on top of each scone. 
  8. Bake for 20 to 23 minutes or until lightly golden. 

Serves 4-6.
